Bibo Reyes has played many roles in his career as a theater actor, but with all eyes on him following the success of “Ang Huling El Bimbo” and its recent concert “Ang Muling El Bimbo,” he realized that his biggest role yet doesn’t take place on stage, but in real life and online.

“A post was not just a post anymore; it became a statement---something that was attributable to me in a way that complaining about the traffic did not seem to be before,” he said on his Instagram account in support of the #KailanganTotoo pledge.

In a conversation we had with the actor and podcaster, he said he was happy to see that more people are using social media for more than just a ranting ground—it is now a space for people to be aware of their surroundings and bring diverse perspectives to the table. As in the #KailanganTotoo art by Cj De Silva that Reyes shared on his Instagram, more people are bursting the bubbles they’ve put themselves in.

Still, there are the trolls and others who act in bad faith who are using social media to spread misinformation, fake news and outright lies. That’s why it’s up to each of us to contribute to making online spaces a place of respect and truth.

This responsibility to social media followers isn’t limited to those with numbers in the thousands. Reyes believes that we all have to hold each other accountable, especially at this point in our country’s history.
